Golden trees

A couple of days ago I had one of those lovely experiences that sometimes happen when you cycle to work. It was morning, and the sky was gradually darkening as the clouds threatened rain. Nevertheless, the sun was still able to break through the clouds. As it rose higher in the sky, it cleared the tops of surrounding woodland and houses and suddenly the tops of the trees were burnished by the light. All I could see in front of me was tens of filigree golden crowns, reaching up into a steel sky. Beautiful.
