The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke

I enjoyed this enormously. After reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, I was hungry for another peek at the amazing world Susanna Clarke created, and this anthology of short stories gives us a few glimpses of some of the characters from that book. It also continues the otherworldly atmosphere and the immaculate in-period writing style of the original while telling some arresting and engrossing stories. However, after Jonathan Strange, and the many (many!) pages it offered in which to stretch out and luxuriate in both the story and the world she created, these short stories are just too brief! No sooner have you got in to a creepy tale, then you are out the other side and into the next.

All this is really my way of saying that I can’t wait for the next full length novel from Susanna Clarke.
