Karen on feminism

Karen in the BBC sitcom Outnumbered (the wonderful Ramona Marquez) is a feminist genius. Here, she is discussing with her mother why life is unfair for women, because they can’t grow beards.

Mum: Do you want to grow a beard? Karen: Well I might want to be a… tugboat captain or a, um… an ayatollah. Mum: Well, you’d make a very good ayatollah. Anyway, women can do things that men can’t do, women can have babies. Mum: Yes, but I’d rather have a beard or a moustache than a baby, because then you can just shave it off if you change your mind, and you can’t do that with a baby.

Bianca loves to sit behind the blind and look out the window at all the goings on outside. As we know, a cat’s tail has a mind of its own, so sometimes she forgets that hers is giving her postion away.

Over Easter, we visited a National Trust property, Baddesley Clinton, which is in Warwickshire. It’s a lovely Elizabethan house, with lots of priest holes (the family was Catholic) and wonderful grounds. I love the details of old stone and plants growing over it.
